Description
Discover interesting fungi found in the richly diverse ecosystems at For-Mar. This citizen science approach explores ecological connections and contributes to the mycological community. This experience begins with a 10-15 minute discussion introducing participants to mushroom identification and responsible/sustainable collection techniques under a pavilion with tables designed for a variety of accessibility needs. After this, the group takes a foray through diverse field, forest, and riparian ecosystems with stops to explore and observe fungi. Each stop will be about 5-10 minutes long at a location with a bench seat available. This guided hike moves along variable trail types from grassy, flat paths to flat, dirt trails, and three gentle to slightly moderate dirt slopes. A paved loop at the meeting area provides an ideal path for anyone requiring a shorter yet accessible foray. Since For-Mar is a Nature Preserve, the area is maintained to be as natural as possible; pets, smoking, loud noises, etc. are not permitted. Participants are encouraged to wear long pants and closed shoes. Insect repellent and collection tools will be provided.
