Description
The Willows Ecology Center at Chatfield School is the first commercial strawbale building in Michigan and includes a living roof, passive solar design, solar electricity and hot water, and edible perennial landscaping. The presentation will include a tour of the Willows and outdoor classrooms including the maple sugar shack, hoophouse, garden, pig and chicken pens, earthen oven, indigenous lodge, and mushroom farm. Participants will engage in many activities that are teachable for a widely inclusive audience. Participants will tour the facility moving throughout outdoor and indoor areas over various terrain. Please be prepared with weather-appropriate clothing and footwear. In the event of heavy rain or storms, the experience will move to indoor locations at the school.

Arrival and Transportation Details: Meet at Field Experience Location 5 at the UM-Flint Riverfront Conference Center (1 Riverfront Plaza, Flint, MI 48502) by 1:00p.m. The car caravan will depart at 1:05p.m. and return to the Conference Center by 4:00p.m.
