Description

Experience 3-P learning curriculum containing 20+ hours of watershed content for grades 5-12, both in and out of the classroom. Explore activities and community connections that build on each other. Youth gain immersive, exemplary watershed STEM education experiences that enhance classroom learning objectives and elevate youth voice in a fun and supportive setting. Great for both formal and informal educators! This training will take place in- and outside on uneven ground and near Lake Ligon. This curriculum was developed in partnership with MiSTEM Region 6, Genesee County Parks & Recreations' For-Mar Nature Preserve & Arboretum and the Flint River Watershed Coalition. Includes: paper copy of curriculum, access to online resources and curriculum, 6 SCECHs, 6-hour hands on training, and SNACKS! Genesee or St. Clair County educators also receive access to curriculum trunks to borrow from For-Mar Nature Preserve or Pine River Nature Center. Location: Ligon Outdoor Center at 5213 East Farrand Road, Clio, MI 48420 Time: Thursday, October 1 from 8:30a.m. to 3:30p.m. Arrival: Please park in the designated parking spaces. There will be a short walk on an unpaved walking trail to the session location. A shuttle car can be available upon request. About the Presenters: Nicole Ferguson, Chief Park Naturalist, Genesee County Parks & Recreation Commission, For-Mar Nature Preserve & Arboretum. Nicole is deeply involved in coordinating and shaping the development of educational programming, ensuring environmental education is accessible to the community through field experiences, school field trips, and community events. Kelly Sanborn, Educational Coach, Great Lakes Stewardship Initiative’s Discovering PLACE hub. Kelly is deeply passionate about designing engaging, place-based learning experiences that connect students to their local communities through authentic scientific investigations and environmental stewardship.
